Meta offices

Facebook owner Meta plans to lay off thousands of employees as early as this week, just a few months after laying off around 11,000 employees, according to a report from Bloomberg.

The current round of layoffs is driven by financial goals and is distinct from the “flattening”, according to a report citing sources familiar with the subject.

The Washington Post reported last month that Meta planned to reduce employment as part of a reorganization and reduction initiative.

At the time, Meta declined to comment, but spokesperson Andy Stone, in a series of tweets, referenced a number of previous pronouncements by Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg indicating that additional cuts were imminent.

Meta’s November layoffs of over 11,000 employees were among the largest of the previous year and the first in the company’s history. Other digital companies, like Alphabet Inc, the parent company of Google, and Microsoft Corp, have also eliminated thousands of positions.
