Shopify has unveiled a new service, allowing major retailers to integrate the company’s tools into their own web platform.

Toymaker Mattel is the first brand to sign up for the product, the company said, with talks also ongoing with a number of other major enterprise clients that Shopify already work closely with.

Shopify, a service that helps businesses create an online store and website for a monthly fee, will enable retailers to pick and choose components for their current online operations, such as checkout and other back-office services.

The cost of the Commerce Components service will depend on the retailer’s customizations and the components they want to implement. Currently, Shopify Plus subscriptions begin at $2,000 per month, with basic prices of $29.

“Commerce Components is fundamentally for a new segment of the market that has historically been underserved… we think this give us a new market to go into,” Shopify CEO Harley Finkelstein stated in an interview.

“If you have to build it yourself, which a lot of big retailers had to, you end up running your own tech company as opposed to making the product,” Finkelstein said, highlighting the rise of tiny brands that choose to sell directly to customers via social media or their own website.
