Honda Motor Co has announced plans to reduce production by as much as 30% at its Japanese plants next month, blaming the decision on persistent supply chain and logistical issues.

Two lines at the company’s Suzuka plant in western Japan will reduce production by around 10% this month and then up to 30% in early August versus previous plans, Honda said in a statement.

Additionally production will be cut back by around 10% next month at Honda’s assembly plant in Saitama prefecture, north of Tokyo.

The impact on supply chains from continuing lockdowns in China coupled with the semiconductor shortage has seen manufacturers struggling across the automotive industry, with a number of other firms also scaling back operations in the near term.

Toyota Motor Corp also announced reduced production targets this week, with the firm now aiming to produce 700,000 units in August, an 18% reduction from the original target.

Honda had previously adjusted its production plan in May but had planned a return to normal levels in early June.
