July 19, 2019 – Japanese brewer Asahi Group Holdings Ltd. will buy Australian Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) for 1.2 trillion yen ($11 billion) from its Belgian parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev, the Australian company said today.
With its largest-ever acquisition, Asahi aims to expand its business in Australia. CUB, Australia’s leading brewer, is known for beers such as Victoria Bitter and Carlton Draught.
As part of efforts to boost its global sales through premium beers, Asahi has already bought brewers in the Czech Republic and Italy from Anheuser-Busch InBev.
